May is National Teen Pregnancy Month and I partnered up with The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy to help spread some very important resources with people that do not have access to them. I really love working campaigns that hit a personal spot and that I can find ways to relate to.
I grew up in a Hispanic household where talking about sex was taboo. It was almost like you were just supposed to know everything related to this topic, and you could not ask questions. Back when I was in High School the internet and social media, in particular, was not as popular as it is now. Thanks to that environment, I always found a way to educate myself, whether it was through books or my sex-ed teacher. Something me and my husband both agreed on is that when we decide to have kids, that sex will be talked about in our household with our kids and it will not carry this stigma. We both agree that talking about birth control, healthy relationships and safe sex is important. Did you know that since the early 1990s, teen pregnancy and birth rates in the United States have declined by 55% and 65% respectively and are now at record low levels?
There are many ways to get involved in amazing causes like this one. Check out the video below for some tips if you are having a hard time talking with your teen.
